Text Box: JACKSON  COUNTY  PARKS  &  RECREATION  DEPARTMENT

In the design of a parking lot for the Jackson County Recreation Complex, we decided to use a stormwater wetland (eco-filter) to filter nutrients and heavy metals flowing from the parking lot and baseball fields that would be entering the trout waters of Cullowhee Creek.  The scope of work included designing and securing the proper erosion control permits for the parking lot, the wetland construction, and planting of the area with native wetland species.  Such species as Arrowhead, Blue Lobelia, Buttonbush, Cardinal Flower, Pickerelweed, Soft stem Bulrush and Three-Square Bulrush.  To keep the native wetland plants alive during a drought an artificial spring was installed to provide water.
